Identifying the Warning Signs of Chronic Stress
- Dental and Jaw Discomfort
Chronic stress can manifest in the form of dental issues, including jaw pain and gum discomfort. Unconscious teeth grinding, known as bruxism, often goes unnoticed until a dental professional identifies the wear on your teeth. If you experience jaw soreness, consult with your dentist to ensure you are taking appropriate measures to protect your dental health.
- Cognitive Impairment
An overburdened schedule can lead to memory lapses, which may seem inconsequential at first. Nevertheless, significant forgetfulness may stem from excessive stress. However, stress can also lead to dehydration due to the release of hormones from the adrenal glands. Lying in bed may become a time when worries are magnified, impacting sleep quality. Additionally, stress can lead to unusual dreams or an increased desire to sleep, which may also signal underlying anxiety and depression.
