The Flaws That Make You Unsuccessful

Do these excuses sound familiar?

  • Tomorrow I will start my diet

  • Next week I will get my project started.

  • I can’t do this, I am not good enough

You are not alone if these are relatable. People struggle with one or more of these fatal flaws on a daily basis. You don’t have to let any of them stop you from being a success.

These are short, usually under 5 minutes but they can enable you to listen to confidence and motivation advice and tips while driving or relaxing.

Procrastination. This is one of the more common fatal flaws. No matter your good intentions of starting something, you can always seem to find something else to do. Procrastination leads to a cycle of excuses and self-doubt.

  • Some methods you can use to reduce procrastination are to set and stick to a deadline. Write down what needs to be done and when you will do it. Break down the goal into small and manageable steps.

  • To keep you on track, find an accountability partner. Keep focused on the task at hand by eliminating distractions. Get yourself started by starting with the most straightforward task.

Perfectionism. Society celebrates perfectionism, but trying for perfectionism is just a form of self-sabotage.

  • People who are perfectionists are their own biggest critics. No matter how hard they try to do something, they are never satisfied. This leads to feelings of frustration and self-doubt.

  • To deal with perfectionism, you first need to learn how to accept imperfection. Don’t focus on the outcome, focus instead on the process. Set realistic goals and don’t be afraid of making mistakes.

  • Focus on making progress not perfection, no one is perfect. Find a role model whole accepts imperfection. You need to stop making comparisons to others and celebrate your own accomplishments no matter how small they may appear.

Fearing failure. When you start doing something new, it is natural to feel fear or anxiety. If you let fear take control, you can be prevented from taking any risks and actually achieving your goals.

  • Dealing with your fear of failure. Identify what you are afraid of and understand that part of the process is failure. Build you confidence by setting realistic goals and making a plan to achieve them.

  • Seek support from role models who have overcome failure. At some point, everyone fails. Learn from your mistakes and don’t be afraid to take any risks.

  • Start small, work your way up and be prepared to suffer some setbacks. Persevere through the difficult times you will encounter.

No motivation. When the goal or task is difficult, it is easy to lose your motivation. When this happens, it makes it harder to achieve the goals you set.

  • Staying motivated involves finding out those things that drive you. Make a plan using the SMART goals method. These are goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant  and Timely.

  • Seek support from others and work with an accountability partner. Find a role model to help you create a positive mindset. Focus on what you have attained not on your failures and persevere through the difficult times.

These four fatal flaws can stop you from becoming successful. When you identify any of these flaws in yourself, and can take the steps to overcome them, you will be well on your way to achieving your goals
