Surround Yourself with Positivity for a Better Life

Have you ever noticed how being around certain people can instantly lift your mood, while others drain your energy? The company you keep has a significant impact on your mindset and overall happiness. If you surround yourself with negativity, it’s only a matter of time before it influences your thinking. On the other hand, being around positive people can help you develop an optimistic outlook and improve your overall well-being.

Confidence in your abilities to go after your goals can sometimes be difficult to find or keep.

It can sometimes take time to discover the confidence you have inside you. This can be especially true if you are trying something new.

I have a program that can help you to discover what is holding you back from achieving your goals as well as help you set an attainable goal related to where you are in your life and where you are trying to be.

This program also works with you to build up your confidence in being able to reach your goal.

You can find out more about this program at Confidology, a funny name but a serious program.

You can contact me to talk about this or any other aspect of confidence and success at michael@coachmichaelw.com

If you are not ready to commit to a full program, I have a self-paced course on Udemy that may be of interest. You can find out about the course and register at Confidence and Motivation Development and Maintenance

Negativity is contagious, but so is positivity. The people you interact with daily — friends, family coworkers — affect your emotions, whether you realize it or not. If you’re constantly exposed to complaints, pessimism and criticism, it can make your own outlook more negative. However, when you spend time with positive, encouraging people, their attitude can start to influence you in the best way possible.

One of the biggest benefits of surrounding yourself with positive individuals is that it changes how you handle challenges. Life is full of setbacks, but your response to them determines how they affect you. When you’re around optimistic people, they encourage solutions rather than dwelling on problems. Instead of reinforcing feelings of failure, they help you see opportunities for growth. Their support can make obstacles seem less overwhelming and more manageable.

Optimistic people also help you recognize negativity within yourself. Everyone has moments of doubt or frustration, but having people around who gently call attention to your pessimistic thinking can help you break the habit. They can offer a different perspective, remind you of your strengths and encourage you to focus on solutions rather than problems. In turn, you can do the same for them, creating a cycle of mutual encouragement.

Positivity also improves motivation. If you spend time with individuals who are passionate, driven and excited about their goals, their energy will inspire you to pursue your own ambitions. Conversely, being around people who constantly complain about their circumstances but do nothing to change them can drain your enthusiasm. The right environment fuels ambition, while the wrong one stifles it.

Relationships with positive people often lead to better decision-making. If you’re surrounded by those who encourage personal growth and healthy choices, you’re more likely to make decisions that align with your long-term happiness. On the other hand, spending time with people who engage in self-destructive habits can pull you in the wrong direction. The influence of those around you is stronger than you might think, so choosing your inner circle wisely is essential.

While seeking out positive relationships, it’s important to recognize that no one is cheerful all the time. Positivity isn’t about ignoring struggles or pretending everything is perfect — it’s about having a mindset that focuses on solutions, resilience and growth. Positive people are not those who never experience hardships; they are those who refuse to let hardships define them. Being around individuals with this mindset can teach you how to approach life with strength and optimism.

One way to attract positive people into your life is to be that kind of person yourself. Positivity attracts positivity. If you constantly complain, criticize or expect the worst, optimistic individuals may distance themselves. However, if you encourage, uplift and express gratitude, you’ll naturally draw like-minded people toward you.

Actionable Step:

Identify the people in your life who have the greatest influence on your mindset. Are they encouraging and uplifting, or do they bring you down? Make a conscious effort to spend more time with those who inspire and motivate you. If you notice negativity creeping into your own behaviour, challenge yourself to shift your thinking. Surrounding yourself with positivity starts with the choices you make every day.

Choosing to associate with positive, growth-minded individuals can transform your outlook and quality of life. The energy of those around you is powerful, and by intentionally cultivating relationships that support happiness and success, you set yourself up for a brighter future. While negativity is easy to absorb, so is optimism — it’s just a matter of choosing the right people to be around.
