Secrets of Self-motivation

something special

Staying motivated can be tough for everyone. It is especially tough when you have nothing to rely on but yourself. When you are working with another person, you have them to help keep you on track. When you are working alone, you are left with nothing but your thoughts. The good news – that’s ok! In fact, if you follow these nine tips, you will have no problem tapping into the power of self-motivation.

  1. Make a Deal With Yourself

One of the best ways to boost your motivation is to make a deal with yourself. The idea here is that you create some reward that you receive when you finish a task. For example: If I work hard for the next hour, I can take a break and do something I love.

  1. Track Your Success

Do you know what motivates me? All the little successes on the way to reaching a big goal. This is why you should use a success log to track all of your wins. If you start to feel your motivation slipping, read through this list for an instant boost.

  1. Start Simplifying

When you start to focus on just the essentials, you will naturally feel more motivated. Working on things that we know are important makes motivation much easier than when we feel like we are just spinning our tires working on things that don’t matter.

  1. Set Measurable Goals

If you have anything you need to get done, you should write it down as a goal. The most important thing is to create goals that allow you to measure your progress. A goal of “I’d like to get healthy” isn’t as easy to measure as “I’d like to spend 30 mins each day working out”.

  1. Do Something to Boost Your Energy

Our motivation is intrinsically linked to our energy levels, so if you find your motivation is lagging, try boosting your energy levels. A good way to do that is by moving around, grabbing a snack, or taking a break.

  1. Focus On Your Self-Talk

Do you know what saps your motivation instantly? Talking down to yourself. It can be hard to break, but you should try and replace your negative self-talk with positive. The next time you feel like saying something negative about yourself – catch it and correct it.

  1. Pump Yourself Up With Routines

Do you have any personal rituals that pump you up? If not – you should find some! This could be an energizing morning routine or something as simple as a motivational playlist.

  1. Put It in Your Schedule

For some reason, simply setting a deadline on a task makes us more likely to finish them. No matter what you want to accomplish, give it a deadline and put it right in your schedule.

  1. Just Act Like It

If you can’t get motivated no matter what you do, try acting like you are already. For some weird reason, when you act motivated or energized, you might actually convince yourself you are!

Unlock Your Potential by Overcoming Your Limitations

limitations

Do you put limitations on yourself and then feel like you’re unable to accomplish your goals? A limiting mindset may stem from a difficult childhood, low self-esteem, or past failures.

Despite your specific reason, it all boils down to fear. It could be the fear of rejection or of failing again. It could also be because you’re afraid of not being good enough.

Unlock your potential and overcome your limitations with these tips:

  1. Embrace your limitations. You’ll likely encounter someone smarter, stronger, or better looking during your life. Realize that even if you’re not the best at something, you can still be very successful, as long as you make an effort.
    • Avoid letting a fear of inadequacy stop you from trying. It’s okay if you try and fail. Failing to try is the only true failure. Each failure brings you closer to success.
  1. Work a little harder. If you’re less than stellar at something, you can compensate by working even harder.
    • Thomas Edison once said, “Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.” Even coming up with a great idea for a new invention is more about hard work than about being brilliant. Lots of people have unique ideas, but it takes someone who’s willing to put in the extra effort to make it successful.
    • Avoid letting fear hold you back. Just get to work and hope for the best.
  1. Set goals. Before you get in your car and turn on the ignition, you have a destination in mind. Accomplishing things in life can be the same way. Have a clear understanding of where you want to go and then you can figure out how to get there.
    • Set realistic goals, but be willing to step out of your comfort zone. It can be very discouraging if your goals are impossible to achieve. Make your goals challenging, yet attainable.
    • If your goals are too easy, you won’t feel a sense of accomplishment or any motivation to push yourself towards them.
  1. Find a coach. Every athlete who succeeds in sports owes a lot of credit to their coaches. Coaches help take players to places they would be unable to get to by themselves. It isn’t only athletes that can benefit from coaching. You can talk to career coaches, life coaches, or someone else who can help you achieve success.
  2. Understand the limitations of your mindset. Sometimes things seem impossible for us, only because that’s what we believe them to be.
    • As an example, let’s take the story of Roger Bannister. Roger Bannister is the first person to ever run a mile in less than 4 minutes. He did it on May 6, 1954, and before that day, many believed that his accomplishment wasn’t humanly possible.
    • Many gifted athletes had come incredibly close, but nobody did it before Roger Bannister. However, once that barrier was broken it became possible in people’s minds.
    • The year after Roger Bannister ran his 4 minute mile, 37 other runners were also able to accomplish the same feat. The year after that, 300 runners were able to run a mile in under 4 minutes.
    • It’s not that these runners weren’t physically capable of doing this before. It’s just that all of them now believed it was possible.

Do you have things in your life that are holding you back? If so, it could be because you have set limitations in your mind. Isn’t it time to open your mind and overcome those limitations? Unlock your potential, starting today!

I am free of self-limiting beliefs.

Although my parents and society impressed their beliefs on me as a child, I have the final say over what I believe as an adult. The only beliefs that I entertain are those that are self-nurturing.

I know that beliefs can drive behaviour. Therefore, I critically analyze my thoughts. I see the world in a positive light. I only entertain ideas that are in line with who I truly am.

I nurture my self-esteem. I deserve success and happiness, and I have the tools to achieve them. I can easily recall times when I have been successful. I hold the feeling of winning close to my heart.

I know that I can achieve greatness just by being myself. There are many things that I can do better than anyone else. I cultivate and nurture my talents.

I am confident because I know my strengths. I am insulated against self-doubt.

I choose to believe in myself, even during challenging times. My sense of self is anchored in my knowledge that I am worthy of love and success. It comes from within.

Like anyone else, I make errors, but I turn them into learning experiences. Although I look to the future, I also take time to recall my past successes.

Today, I choose to release any lingering self-doubts. I realize that my performance can soar higher and higher as I continue to believe in myself. I take full advantage of life’s many learning experiences.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. When has the fear of failure kept me from trying?
  2. What bearing does my past performance have on my present potential?
  3. How would my life change if I constantly visualized success?

You now have some advice, tips and reflections to help you to believe in your own abilities so that you can keep growing in your life.

I believe in my own abilities.

ability

I am capable of so many things!

My talents and skills combine to help me do good things for myself and others, and I am proud of what I have to offer the world. Whatever comes my way, I can accomplish what I set out to do. I believe in my own abilities.

Each day of my life, I grow in some way. I put my best foot forward and learn from everything that comes to me. Because I can grow from even the most challenging situations, I know that I can rise to any occasion.

I am capable of more than I can even dream of today, and I look forward to seeing those abilities manifest.

If I ever feel like I am doing less-than-fabulous work, I give myself a breather. Sometimes a little time away is enough to give me the perspective I need to approach a task in a new light.

During this time, I think about my past successes. This helps me remember my own capability, so when I return to work, I feel good about myself.

I have accomplished so much in my life. This is due, in no small part, to my innate talents. But I have also learned many skills that help me achieve my goals. Whether working on my own objectives or being of service to others, everything I do helps me to do even better tomorrow.

Today, I am thankful for all of my skills and talents. I am confident in my ability to reach my goals. Each day, I remind myself of what I do well, which encourages me to move forward with positivity.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. What are three things I do very, very well?
  2. What challenges am I most proud of having overcome?
  3. How can I continue to increase my confidence in my own abilities?

You now have some advice and tips to help you to believe in your own abilities so that you can keep growing in your life.

From Fear to Freedom

fear

Every successful person has had to deal with fear. The road to hell might be paved with good intentions, but the road to success is littered with fear and uncertainty.

The biggest difference between someone that is wildly successful and someone that is not is the courage to take significant action over and over again.

These steps will enable you take that significant action, repeatedly:

  1. Simply decide to succeed. Most people never really decide to do or accomplish anything significant; at best they ‘kinda sorta try it out.’ However, once you’ve truly decided to go for your dreams, there is no other option – and no room for fear or doubt – in your mind. In fact, the word ‘decide’ means to cut yourself off from any other possibility.
  2. Embrace risk. Chase after your fears and show them who is boss. Make the tough presentation or phone call. Ask for whatever it is that you want. A big part of being successful is doing things that other people are too afraid to do.
  3. Prepare yourself. Many of our stresses, challenges, and concerns are things that we anticipated. Take the time to find solutions and put them into place before you need them. When you can see a challenge that is likely to come up, simply prepare for it instead of worrying about it.
  4. Go with the flow. If you don’t live in the past or future, life is much less stressful. Let go of your resistance to the present moment and see what happens.
  5. Focus on the good outcomes. Most people look for the worst and expect it to happen. Expect the best and it’s much easier to take action. Sure, some undesirable things will likely happen along the way, but they’ll be like mosquitoes that need to be shooed away. That’s much better than the brick wall that you might otherwise perceive.
  6. Learn to relax. When you feel stress and anxiety coming on, a few slow, deep breaths can make a huge difference. To a large extent, our psychology follows our physiology; breathing is the only part of our physiology that we can really control. Use that control to your advantage.
  7. Fully engage in your life and get away from the news. The news is so negative. Instead, find something interesting to do with your time. If you’re conquering less stressful things all day long, the more stressful things don’t seem so bad anymore. Take a piano lesson, go hiking, or go skydiving. It will make your life more interesting, too.
  8. Realize that you are enough. Even if you have things to learn and skills that need to be honed, that doesn’t mean that you’re incapable of the task at hand. Plan to acquire the resources you need, but do everything you can with the resources you have now.
  9. Start small. Make a list of everything that you need to do but can’t seem to follow through on. Put them in order from least scary to most. Now decide to do the item at the top of the list. When that’s done, do the next. Only focus on the current item at the top of the list.

The only way to truly be free is to conquer your fears. The only way to conquer your fears is to do the things that frighten you. Show yourself that you can do those things successfully. Follow the suggestions above and start your journey from fear to freedom today!

You now have some advice and tips to help you to get started, overcome your fears and keep growing in your life.
