4 Thoughts People with High Self-Worth Have

self-worth

The most confident and happy people we know are the ones who have high self-worth. But how did they get that way? Are some people just born with a better sense of value? Or do they make a practice of acting a certain way, which helps to keep them feeling positive about who they are?

When you talk to people with high self-worth, you find that they have a lot of things in common. Those who feel good about themselves tend to think a certain way. Let’s look at a few of the ideas which keep people feeling worthy even when life might be difficult.

They Understand Where Mistakes Fit

Everyone messes up now and again. The person with self-worth recognizes this. They take responsibility for the action and understand that just because something went wrong, it doesn’t change who they are as a person. They still value themselves even when they make a mistake.

They Don’t Get Caught up in the Trappings of Life

Who you are has a whole lot less to do with what you have than you might think. It doesn’t matter how much money is in your bank account, whether you are wearing the right clothes or if you have the “right” education. Your value has a lot more to do with who you are inside than who you are outside. You can still be worthy even if you have very little in the way of possessions or money.

They Don’t Chase Happiness

Who you are has very little to do with whatever emotion you happen to be feeling in the moment. If you are not happy, it does not mean that you are not worthy period. You’re going to feel what you’re going to feel. Individuals with high self-worth realize this and accept their emotions for what they are: a reflection of their emotional state and not of personal value.

They Take Responsibility for How They Feel

When you have strong feelings of self-worth, you do not need other people to define you. This also means you need to drop any victim mentality. They say no one can make you feel anything without your permission. This is more true than you might realize. It’s up to you to decide who you are. No one else has this right.

Of course, there are other things people with high self-worth do. They practice empathy, especially with themselves. They love their job and set goals that make sense to them. The common thread? They do things that honor them. They don’t make compromises or get caught up in doing what they think they ‘should’ but instead focus on what’s right for them.

You can do this, too, by merely paying attention to your choices and holding fast to who you are.

How to Axe Self-Sabotaging Behaviour

self-sabotage

Self-sabotage is a uniquely human behaviour. Many of us sabotage ourselves when we decide we want something by doing everything we can to ensure we don’t get it. Sound familiar? Although self-sabotage is a subconscious behaviour, we can get a handle on it.

There are many reasons that you might sabotage yourself. It’s an extremely common behaviour, rooted in a fear of the unknown. If you’ve immersed yourself in mediocrity, the idea of greatness may be frightening. Ask yourself if you’re satisfied with your life.

Find out why you may self-sabotage:

  1. You might self-sabotage because you have a need to be in control of your circumstances. The easiest and most certain way to stay in control is to maintain the status quo.
    • If you put your all into something, you run the risk of becoming vulnerable. Fear gets the best of you and you self-sabotage.

To help me to better plan this blog and other material, I invite you to take a quick 1-question survey by clicking on the photo below.we hear you

  1. Low self-esteem. Do you feel unworthy of greatness?
    • For whatever reason, you may have decided that happiness ought to be forever beyond your reach. This is a self-limiting idea, and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
  1. Perhaps you undermine your efforts because you’re seeking excitement. You feel the need to remain in a constant state of turmoil to distract yourself from painful memories or alleviate boredom.

If you see yourself in any of these descriptions, fear not: there are steps you can take to put yourself on the path toward self-mastery.

Consider this process for defeating your self-sabotage:

  1. Observe your behaviour. First off, it’s essential that you begin to observe yourself. You can effectively do this by creating a self-sabotage journal. Make a journal entry every time you realize that you’ve sabotaged yourself. Describe the setting, circumstances, and end result. Avoid over-analyzing.
    • Most often, a person’s true intentions are most evident in their actions, rather than their words.
    • Strive to be an impersonal observer in your journal. Eventually, you’ll gain a better understanding of your motives in certain situations.
  1. Envision success. Keep in mind that success is neither black nor white. Cultivate the habit of envisioning what success means to you and remember how it feels to achieve it. If you do this consistently, you may find that what you envision changes over time.
    • Begin to see success as an integral part of your future, but realize there will still be challenges. Just like everyone else, you’ll still have to pay taxes and have relationship issues.
  1. Let go of the notion of perfection. As you visualize success, are you still thinking that success equals perfection? If so, it’s time to realize that nobody is perfect.
    • This is what George Bernard Shaw would refer to as “doublethink.” Perfection and life are mutually exclusive because perfection is unattainable. Your subconscious won’t allow you to achieve success if you associate success with the impossible task of being perfect.
    • Think of your subconscious as a computer. It doesn’t know how to execute a command called “do the impossible.”
    • If you associate success with fear, your subconscious will fight you the entire way. Why? Because its primary function is to protect you from perceived threats.

Give yourself permission to anticipate success with excitement. Perhaps you’ve been sending your subconscious the message, “Don’t give me success!” So, let’s put your self-sabotaging behaviours in the past!

Embrace the good life you deserve by picturing yourself as successful, and then refuse to talk yourself out of going for it. The journey to your ideal life starts now!

Gaining Self Confidence To Succeed In Anything!

self-confidence

Where does self confidence come from? How do we get it? Why don’t I have it? The answer to all of these questions can be answered with one word – you! Self confidence starts with you, your perception of yourself, and what other people think about your actions or behaviour.

For some of us, a lack of self confidence only affects our high ambitions. You might have always wanted to get up on stage, or to be a professional singer or actor for example. Perhaps your life dream is to travel the world, visit different countries or cities, but you don’t have the self confidence to do it. For others, the problem of self confidence is much closer to home – in the office, business meetings, public speaking events or presentations.

Self confidence issues affect most of us at some time, and we can usually find ways of getting around the problem. Avoidance is one tactic we often use – if we can get out of an intimidating situation we’ll make up excuses not to take part. However, there are times when we can’t get out of it, or we really don’t want to. If a lack of self confidence is preventing you from doing trying something new, or from succeeding in your working life, it’s time to do something about it.

To help me to better plan this blog and other material, I invite you to take a quick 1-question survey by clicking on the photo below.

The starting point in improving your self confidence is understanding what causes the problem. Low self esteem, not believing in yourself or your ability, feeling inadequate compared to your colleagues or friends or maybe some kind of trauma from your childhood are all contributing factors. By examining the reasons for your low self confidence, you’re halfway there!

Taking positive action to overcome your fears is the next step to help boost your self confidence. A simple way to do this is by taking on small challenges. You have allowed your brain to associate certain events or actions with fear, so you’ve already pre-empted the outcome of these situations. By taking a small step towards conquering this, you’ll find that the result is most likely not as bad as you think – in fact, you’ll probably be surprised about how good you feel and your self confidence will instantly increase.

When you’ve completed your first small challenge, congratulate yourself on achieving your aim. A small reward can often help. You’re already on the right path to improving your self confidence, so you’re ready to take it to the next level. This doesn’t need to be a huge task; you don’t want to undo all the good work. Building up your self confidence takes time, and while you might want to leap ahead, it can be a good idea to take things slowly at first. Steadily increase the risks you’re taking to get your self confidence to where you want to be. Risk taking does not, of course, mean jumping off a bridge, but the perceived risk of something happening as a result of your actions is usually the biggest barrier with self confidence.

Self confidence problems are common for most people, and there are excellent resources to learn to deal with these issues, but if you do have severe difficulty facing certain situations you should seek professional help

Five Habits to Transform Your Life

habits

Do you feel as though you are stuck in a rut, unable to move forward, or make progress and experiencing the same, tedious Groundhog Day on repeat? Here are secrets to your success and the top five habits that you can use to transform your life.

What Are The Benefits of Habits?

Building habits and routines has the potential to transform our lives through making small, seemingly insignificant changes each day.

These build up over time, and before you know it, you are enjoying a balanced, refreshing new life.

The habits you build are totally within your grasp – here are the five most effective habits to cultivate:

  1. Change your wake-up time. One of the simplest and most effective changes that you can make is the time you wake up – this has a large impact on how your day will go.
    • Train your body to wake up earlier, and at the same time each day, and you will enjoy more time, energy, and it will get you into a positive mindset for the day. Plus, you can enjoy coffee in peace!
  1. Have a schedule. Once you are up and about, take some time to schedule out your day. By drawing up a daily schedule, you are focusing on your priorities, eliminating distractions, and helping you decide which things are most important to you.
    • Having a schedule also offers you structure in your day, and this can be very useful for remaining motivated and engaged.
    • It also sets out all your responsibilities clearly, and this can help prevent you from feeling overwhelmed by all you have to do or caught out by unexpected tasks.

  1. Set deadlines. Deadlines can be an amazing way to focus the mind and help you to achieve your goals. Rather than seeing them as restrictive or invasive, restructure your thinking to help you smash your goals and reduce procrastination.
    • Challenge yourself to a certain deadline each day – you will feel amazing when you beat it!
    • Setting deadlines also helps you to remain accountable for your actions, and this is an important element of self-development and improvement.
  1. Make time to move. As part of your daily schedule, take the time to pencil in a chance to move your body periodically throughout the day. Humans were not designed for a sedentary lifestyle, so write down the times when you will be exercising and be as active as possible throughout the day.
    • Set an alarm to remind you to stand up every 30 minutes, walk around the block on your lunchtime, or even just do some stretching while you are waiting for the kettle to boil.
    • Keeping fit and active is crucial for improving your life and will keep you healthy and strong as the years go by.
  1. Remember self-care. You are the most important asset that you have, and it is important to take care of yourself before anyone else. This can seem counterintuitive, but it is extremely important for keeping yourself healthy, well and strong.
    • Take time each day to watch your favourite movie or even just enjoy the sound of silence.
    • Don’t make work your whole life. Regardless of how much you love your job, it’s important to ensure that you have projects that are just for you and that ignite that inner spark and passion in your soul.

Transforming your life may seem like an immense task, but incorporating these five small, simple habits into your daily routine will soon allow you to enjoy incredible, life-changing results. What are you waiting for?

5 Tips to Create a Present Moment Mindset

present moment

Our lives are chaotic and busy, and we are so focused on the past and the future that we often forget to simply be in the moment.

The present is happening right now, yet so many of us take it for granted and don’t appreciate the small elements of life that make it powerful and special.

You can train yourself to stop and be in the moment, finding inner peace and tranquility just by following a few simple guidelines.

Try these tips to live more in the present moment:

  1. Focus entirely on a specific action. Take some time to focus on a specific moment. Stop everything you are doing and concentrate on one thing only. This allows you to ground yourself in one task and completely clear your mind of everything but the present moment.
    • For example, make a cup of coffee and consider how it tastes when you drink it. Concentrate on how the warm cup feels in your hands. Consider the blend of flavors. What’s the temperature as it touches your lips?
    • All goals, concerns, and objectives should leave your mind. By focusing on one action, you will be able to appreciate and enjoy the small, seemingly insignificant actions in life. You’ll feel calmer, more at peace.
  1. Switch off your phone. Screens are an integral part of our lives. But we are forever checking our emails or social media and are always connected. Take some time to switch off your phone and tablet.
    • Disconnecting for a short time will allow you to focus on what you’re doing in the present moment. Perhaps have coffee with a friend or engage in discussion, focusing on nothing but the conversation or the activity.
  1. Go for a walk. A walk is one of the best ways to achieve a present moment mindset. It allows you to clear your head of unnecessary or intrusive thoughts and concerns for a short time.
    • As you walk, consider where you are. Appreciate how the ground feels beneath you and what the temperature of the air might be.
    • Think about the sounds of nature and isolate all other distractions. This will allow tranquil, calming thoughts to fill your mind as you enjoy being outside and concerning yourself only with what is around you.
  1. Consider what you appreciate in the present moment. In our busy lives, we can forget what we are grateful for and what we enjoy. Take some time out to write, think about, or even record a list of things you appreciate.
    • For example, you might appreciate your family, friends, your job, or your house. Did you get to eat a meal today?
    • Consider what brings you joy in the present moment and this will allow you to feel a sense of positivity, warmth, and excitement.
  1. Consider your senses. We take our senses for granted. Smell, taste, hearing, touch, and sight allow us to experience the joys of life. They are so powerful and important and yet many of us don’t take the time to appreciate them.
    • As you go for a walk, take in the surroundings around you. Take ten minutes of your day to sit still.
    • Allow yourself to clear your mind, thinking of nothing but how your body and senses are responding to the world around you. This will allow you to be present in the moment, to fully experience that moment.

By taking some time out of your day to be present, you will find yourself happier, calmer, and more grateful for the smaller parts of life. We could all learn to take a moment to stop, think, and enjoy every second of our day.
