Staying Motivated

staying motivated

You are losing interest in your project and you are only halfway through. You know that your motivation is going to be gone and you are helpless to stop it. You can try the following to help you stay motivated and stay on track through the rest of your project.

Visualize your success. You need to see yourself accomplishing your task to your satisfaction by the end of the project. This is important since what we tell ourselves will happen and will happen exactly as we tell ourselves. If your thoughts are about failure, you are already likely to fail. If you visualize yourself at the finish line and the project successfully finished, you are more likely to succeed. Keep the images in your head positive and just keep going.

Stop worrying. While this is easier said than done, the more you worry, the more you derail your motivation, energy and enthusiasm that you had for the project. To stop worrying, you need to take a critical look at what you are doing and ask if there are things that you could change. If there are things that can be changed, change them, if not, let them go. You don’t get caught up in worrying if you are motivated, you make it a habit of looking to the future.

Be consistent in action. Staying motivated means setting positive goals and taking consistent action. When neglected, motivation drops. You want to make sure that you keep the energy on the project going where it will do the most good. You need to make sure that you are always moving forward. You need to check your motivation daily and do what needs to be done to keep those levels high. If you are taking the weekend off from work, you should take a few minutes to think about your project. You just need to remind yourself that you are excited about going back to work on Monday. This will keep your motivation and interest high even if you are not working.

Who are you around? Check to see who you with if your motivation is still not good. You may have too many negative influences in your life. Try surrounding yourself with positive people and highly motivated people. Their positive energy will rub off on you.

Keep your environment positive. Motivation thrives in a positive environment. You can listen to motivational music, use positive affirmations, read or listen to motivational materials. These will help you to get back into your project. When you continue to feed yourself a diet of motivational material you will continue to stay motivated.

It doesn’t have to be an impossible task to stay motivated. You will stay on track if you pay attention to some details that will help you get to the finish line of your task. You will get where you want to go when you are mindful of what you are doing and having lots of positive influences.

Does Success Scare You?

To many people, the thought that some people may be afraid of success sounds very odd. People can understand fear of failure, but having a fear of success sounds very preposterous.

Why would a person not want to be successful? How about you?

A common block to being successful consistently is a fear of success. People will achieve 90% of a goal and throw it away at the last moment.

There are many symptoms and components in the fear of success.

The many causes of the fear of success.

The fear of change. You are programmed to avoid change even if your life is less than ideal. Even if you are really dissatisfied with your life, you are still surviving.

  • Your brain is thinking about what could happen if there are changes in your situation. For your brain, alive but miserable is a lot better than possibly being happy but you could end up dead.

A fear of having greater responsibility. With success comes responsibility. You usually have to become much more responsible if you want to experience more success. More is expected from you when you are more successful.

  • When you start a business that becomes successful, you may now have employees relying on you.
  • A real estate empire may sound really great, but now there are tenants, debt and taxes that you have to deal with.

You have a fear of standing out. Many people do not like attention, while some love it. When you are successful you are noticed and there will be people that will dislike you. They may have feelings of jealousy and being mediocre in their lives.

  • You may feel that you would rather just blend into the background than be in the spotlight.

People that fear success have many common characteristics and symptoms.

They self-sabotage. This is experienced by many people. You are making great progress but suddenly things start to fall apart. You start to make mistakes and poor choices. You can usually see this happening to others but it is more difficult to see in yourself.

Goals keep changing. You change your mind on your goal just as you are close to being successful. With these constant changes you will never make any progress. You need to choose a goal that appeals to you and stay with it.

They procrastinate. A common signal that you are afraid of being successful is a sudden lack of motivation. One of the primary destroyers of making progress is procrastination.

Manage your fear of success with these techniques.

Find the cause. Find out what you are actually afraid of and determine the cause of this fear. Once you understand your enemy, you will have a chance to work around it.

See how your thoughts and behaviour are changed by your fear. What is your fear actually doing to you? What symptoms do you have? How do these affect your thinking and behaviour?

Don’t avoid your fears, face them. When you avoid your fears you are heading towards failure. Develop a plan and a strategy to work around your fear. Become resilient to fear by giving yourself a pep talk or ask a friend for help. Do what is necessary to keep making progress.

If you don’t know why you can’t achieve success, consider that you may be afraid of success. Do any of the symptoms resonate with you? What do you think of your success in life up to now? Have you been underachieving?

When you consider the source of your fear, a fear of success can make sense. Making sense of something doesn’t make it the most desired option. Achieve the greatness that you deserve by overcoming your fear of success.

Amazing Self-talk in 5 Minutes

self-talk

The impact of the self-talk that is constantly going on inside your head is dramatic. Your actions and emotions are determined by the conversations you have with yourself. There are different types of self-talk.

General Self-talk

Raise your awareness. You have been talking to yourself for many years that your self-talk has become so natural that you may not really understand what you are saying. You must become aware of what you are saying about your life.

If you would like to listen to these types of articles, you can visit my podcasts at

These are short, usually under 5 minutes but they can enable you to listen to confidence and motivation advice and tips while driving or relaxing.

Pattern disruption. A tool for making life changes is self-talk. Your fear of numbers may have been caused by receiving a bad grade in a math class and has been reinforced. Now you can take many online courses to help you in any type of math.

Take some action. When you are giving yourself your internal speeches, include a call to action. You should focus on attainable goals.

Do a reality check. Check to see if your self-talk is actually a reflection of what is actually going on around you. The difference between being a failure in the kitchen and just burning one slice of toast is huge.

Talk to others. It is valuable to get feedback from others. What do you colleagues and your partner say about you and ate your impressions the same?

Consistency. Before you accept a message, you usually have to hear it many times. With practice, your self-talk will get wiser.

Be your own friend. You don’t speak as harshly to your friends, or others, than you do to yourself. Talk to yourself as you would talk to a close friend. You should be truthful and supportive to yourself.

Motivation Self-talk

Strengthen yourself. In situations were you need endurance and confidence, motivational self-talk works best. You can increase your confidence and belief in your worth and your abilities with a good pep talk.

Identify your hot buttons. What words invigorate you? Call yourself a superhero and remind yourself how awesome you are.

Keep it short. You stay on track easier when you use single words or short phrases. You won’t be distracted by any doubts and you will be better able to focus on your assets.

Instructional Self-talk

Begin early. A great opportunity for instructional self-talk is at the start of a new project. During the important starting phase is a good time to coach yourself.

Be specific and precise. Break down your tasks into specific parts. For public speaking, you could use: make eye contact, get your pacing correct and be enthusiastic.

See your success. See yourself achieving the results you want.

Reassuring Self-talk

Acknowledging your feelings. You can manage your tense moments and have more comfort by having a soothing self-talk. Even if you feel afraid, you will have the best results if you accept your emotions.

Create some distance. People will perform better under stress if they call themselves by their name or replacing the word you instead of using the word I. When you are under pressure this is one way to restore objectivity.

Focus on the positive. Your life challenges won’t disappear just by using self-talk, but you can respond in a more constructive manner. Concentrate on doing better in the future instead of replaying and criticizing yourself for any past mistake.

Start moving yourself in a positive direction with your self-talk. Learn what the thoughts that are going through your head are saying, and if they are negative, change them into a stream of encouragement. You will enjoy more success in your life and reduce stress, and enhance your self-confidence with the right self-talk.

Reducing Procrastination

procrastination

Procrastination develops over time and can lead to other conditions in your life. It isn’t only a symptom of things it is a condition. If you are a procrastinator, you should stop and ask yourself what you are putting off and if it is even worth doing.

You can deal with the habit of procrastination if you accept that it is more than an annoyance and learn and develop more effective time management skills.

To defeat procrastination, you have to realize that you are doing it and why.

You should ask yourself why you procrastinate. For some, it is a method they use to make themselves feel that they are actually accomplishing something. Others use it as a method to cope and a way to divert their attention from an unpleasant or painful task.

Here are some tips that you can use to reduce your procrastination and start to regain control of your time.

Identify that you have this habit. When you re-prioritize your workload you may find that this is part of the habit. If you do delay an essential task for a good reason, you are not engaging in procrastination.

  • If you never get back to these tasks to complete them, or you keep busy focusing on other less important tasks, them procrastination is the issue.
  • Some of the following indicate that you are procrastinating: your day is filled with non-urgent tasks, you read the same emails throughout the day but don’t act on them.
  • You are also procrastinating if you start a task but then go to get a coffee. If you never return to the task, you are procrastinating.

If you would like to listen to these types of articles, you can visit my podcasts at

podcastThese are short, usually under 5 minutes but they can enable you to listen to confidence and motivation advice and tips while driving or relaxing.

Start to work. You are procrastinating if you spend time deciding to take action. Stop deciding and take the action to get the work finished. If you let it slide, you will regret it.

  • This is a practical tip because it helps you take the first step which is usually the hardest. After that the rest becomes more straightforward.

  • As an example, starting to push a car is the most challenging. It becomes more manageable once you get it started moving. You need to apply this to your work.
  • Even a small first step is good. The step may not be the most significant that you have ever taken, but it gets you moving and you will gain momentum.

Willpower is not the answer. You procrastinate, not only from what comes from within you, but also as a result of your environment. If you don’t feel supported in your environment, you won’t feel welcomed.

You don’t realize all of your intentions if you are in that type of environment. You need to ask yourself what do you need to enable you to achieve your goals? When you know that, make a list of the steps needed to achieve those goals.

  • When the steps are known then you need to get started on those steps, one at a time. You will soon be moving towards your goals one step after another. Some people believe that willpower is all that they need.
  • Willpower is only one type of motivation. Willpower can only be used until you feel wiped out.
  • It is challenging to get your motivation to start up again once your willpower runs out. This is why you need to think about your goals, plan the steps needed to achieve those goals.
  • After that planning is done, take those steps and don’t focus on any of the unpleasant aspects.

Procrastination is linked to a lack of motivation. You will be less like to engage in procrastination if you become more preoccupied with your goals. That is a good reason to set motivational goals.

Planning is also a good idea as this will reduce the need for lots of willpower. Using willpower to complete a task is challenging so planning can make things a lot easier. You need to remove procrastination to be more productive as many factors contribute to your overall success.

You can ask for help, since many people procrastinate as they don’t want to ask for help. If you need help, you can talk to friends, your family or your colleagues to get the help you need to complete your tasks.

Top 10 Ways to Make a Huge Leap Forward in Life

forward

Everyone has those days when you could use a little help. Perhaps it’s not looking forward to your next presentation, or you don’t know where to start with your latest business idea.

Maybe it’s not feeling motivated enough to start that project you’ve been thinking about for months or find that perfect client. The bottom line is: sometimes we need the right push in life and the right person to give us that nudge.

So, what can you do to make that giant leap forward? Try these strategies:

  1. Take one step back to move forward. Often, the first thing to do when you need to move forward but feel stuck is to step back. Stop. Avoid trying to force something to happen.
    • Then, you can see what needs to be done and break it down into smaller steps. The more you do, the quicker you’ll start to feel better and be in a position to take the next step.

If you would like to listen to these types of articles, you can visit my podcasts at

podcastThese are short, usually under 5 minutes but they can enable you to listen to confidence and motivation advice and tips while driving or relaxing.

  1. Monitor your state of mind. When life gives you lemons, it can be hard to see the positive. It’s so easy to see the negative situation and feel overwhelmed. Try to stick your head in the sand for a while.
    • Try to block out circumstances you can’t change and focus on the things you can change. Before long, you’ll have a much more positive outlook and will end up making more progress than you ever imagined possible.
  1. Identify the details of what’s going on. Sometimes we don’t realize how many pieces are involved. It’s easy to think you’re facing one problem when it’s a combination of things.
    • Be honest with yourself. Which aspects can you change, and what elements can you influence? Also, which parts could you let go?
  1. Let the past go. Just because you had a terrible experience in the past with no chance of a positive outcome doesn’t mean the past has to define you.
    • Embrace the mistake or pain as a chance to learn and grow. Who knows, the negative experience could be the catalyst for future success.
  1. Consider your options. Look beyond your current circumstances and examine all the choices and possibilities. Don’t get caught up in your present feeling and give up your power. You always have a choice about your next move.
    • When you look at all the options at your disposal, you feel hopeful, motivated, and empowered.
  1. Devise a plan and stick to it. At this point, you have all the information you need. You’ve worked to change your mindset, taken a step back, let the past go, and considered your options. Now, it’s time to take action.
    • Set some goals and realize your dreams. Get out of your way, follow your heart, and seize the moment.
  1. Remind yourself of your “why.” There’s no time like the present. Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way and most importantly, always remember your core values.
    • Remember why you started this journey and what you ultimately want. This attitude will help you stay strong and focused.
  1. Start small. Building momentum is crucial to your success. Take small steps each day and gradually build momentum toward your goals.

  1. Discard what no longer works, even if it worked in the past. Use past experiences as a guide, but don’t be afraid to try something new if it works better.
    • Sometimes, people fail because they’re scared to let go of the systems that brought them to their current stage. Don’t let that happen to you!
  1. Always be grateful. Your attitude has a significant impact on your life. Gratitude is the best attitude to have because it takes you away from what you don’t want and focuses you on what you do want.
    • An example of gratitude is feeling thankful to your parents for all they’ve done for you. Another is feeling thankful for your health and not being afraid to go to the doctor when you have a health issue.

Motivation is not always constant, but you can find your way back to it. All you have to do is relax, take it easy, and consider what you’re trying to accomplish.

Even when things seem impossible, there’s always a chance for you if you have the patience, determination, and enlightenment to persevere.
