When you are a peak performer, people take notice. They begin to look to you for inspiration. Your managers will also notice and will want to do whatever it takes to keep you happy. Learn what it takes to be a peak performer.
- Be a Lifelong Learner
It’s easy to go to work, do our jobs, come home and relax in front of the television. The trouble is, we become complacent and risk having skills become obsolete. When you become a lifelong learner, you keep your skills up-to-date, which lessens the chance of being let go. Dedicate one half hour every other evening to learn something new. - Are You the Go-To Person in Your Company?
You may have noticed those people in your organization where everyone seems to hit up for advice. If this is not you, ask yourself why. These people are highly valued in an organization, and they get this way by taking on tasks outside of their job description. They constantly learn about the organization and become immersed in its success. - Find Your Passion
If you are stuck doing something you hate, it’s going to be difficult to be a peak performer. Either try to restructure your function so that it is more to your liking or find something else that you have a passion for. When you are passionate about something, you will do anything to make sure you are doing your best. - Read About Being Organized
When you are more organized, you will get more done. This will help you in your quest to become a peak performer. You will be able to plan better and take on other tasks that you would not have done if you didn’t organize yourself. Try to commit to reading a chapter a day about organization. You can also read profiles of successful people who describe how they became organized and how that led to their success. - Exercise and Diet
If your body and brain are not functioning optimally, it’s going to be difficult to perform at your peak. You won’t sleep well at night which means that your concentration levels will suffer during the day. Eating a healthy diet is as important as getting exercise as the wrong types of food can drag you down. Besides, over the long run, you can start to experience serious medical conditions which will stress you out and keep you from doing your best. - Maintain a Positive Attitude
If you are constantly negative, you will not be fun to be around. People will avoid you. It also sets the stage for you to knock down ideas without even considering them because your negativity tells you it can’t be done. You cannot achieve peak performance when this occurs. When you are positive, you will have an open mind about what may work and be willing to try different ways to see if they will work. People will flock to you as well, which means they will share their ideas. The more ideas, the better. - Learn How to Be a Pitbull
A Pitbull latches onto something and doesn’t let go. When you do this with your tasks at work, you will make sure you get your work completed. Unlike a Pitbull, you do want to allow for some flexibility. You are working with other people, after all.
